Recently, I was privileged enough to visit Berlin for a 4 day cultural trip. I enjoyed every minute of it. We visited many of the tourist type places such as the fernsehturm (TV tower) and Check point Charlie. Before visiting Germany’s capital I knew next to nothing about World War 2, but I learnt so much whilst I was on this trip. As well as the historical side I really enjoyed practising my German in Berlin. I used to live in Germany so I had a little bit of understanding already, I had never been to Northern Germany so it was a new experience for me.
One of the highlights was definitely going up the TV tower, the view from the top was great and we could see for miles ahead of us. I also enjoyed the river cruise we went on. A pre recorded tape told us all about what was around us in both English and German which meant I could practice my listening skills
I stayed in a room with some friends who had never been to Germany before. We switched on the TV in our room and put some cartoons on in the hope that we might hear some words that were familiar to us and the first thing we heard was “AUF WIEDERSEHEN DIE KATZE!” and so it kind of became the motto of the trip.
Overall I thought Berlin is an amazing city and there is always something to do or see. I would definitely recommend you visit if you haven’t already.
